Gin-instalar sang Department of Science and Technology (DOST) ang vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) system sa idalom sang ila Project DAGAT (Driving Advancement, Generating Access and Transforming Small Island Communities) sa isa ka isla sa Concepcion, Iloilo sini lamang December 19, 2025.
Suno pa kay DOST Western Visayas Regional Director Rowen Gelonga, nga ang amo nga proyekto sa Barangay Botlog sa Concepcion kaupod sa tatlo ka mga island communities nga napili sa rehiyon nga ila mangin benepisyaryo.
“The purpose of our project is we provide technical interventions to address their preparedness in disaster resiliency,” siling pa niya.
“For every island community, we pilot different technologies. In Barangay Botlog, we piloted the vertical access wind turbine. We harness the wind energy to provide electricity to the community,” dugang pa ni Gelonga.
Ang proyekto nangin posible sa pagpanguna sang DOST kaupod ang Central Philippine University kag ang Northern Iloilo State University nga ginpondohan naman sang Department of Economy, Planning, and Development sa idalom sang Innovation Grant.
Madako gid ang mabulig sang VAWT sa isla partikular na sa ila elektrisidad. Target man sang proyekto ang pagtukod sang mga streetlights sa higad sang baybay kag sa ila man barangay hall.
“So the streetlights were provided by the local government unit, while the turbine was our project,” pahayag pa ni Gelonga.
“For now, we are on a dry run. The capacity is one kilowatt, sufficient to light more than 200 bulbs,” dugang pa ni Gelonga.
Pareho man nga mga proyekto ang ginpatigayon man sa Unisan Island sa Nueva Valencia, Guimaras kag sa Mararison Island sa Culasi, Antique.
